Speaking of not using the typical bride and groom as the wedding cake topper, why not change it up with couples of cats, dogs, birds, or even the couples favorite animals to make it very personalized? All of these options can be very inexpensive and are perfect for a quirky destination wedding. Even the cake can be included into the decor and theme of a destination wedding, especially when there are destination wedding cake toppers that are affordable and can be highly customized for the perfect fit. Seashells, wild flowers, Fleur-de-lis, and other designs can be included. Whats more personalized than a wedding cake topper that shows the happy couple together in one of their favorite photos? A topper photo frame can be used for an intimate, personal wedding to really make the cake truly unique.
Stay simple with flavors. My mom wants chocolate. I love carrot. He likes red velvet. His mom has to have almond. Getting a cake with a variety of flavors sounds grand, but more than one flavor can make the cost rise. The most inexpensive flavor is probably, the simple white or yellow cake. Some bakers will increase the price depending on what flavor you choose or if you choose more than one flavor, so this is a good thing to keep in mind. Again, you must ask yourself, will your guest really have a bad night because the cake was simply yellow? I have never been to a wedding where I was just sorely disappointed because of the flavor of the cake. I am usually taken by the wedding cakes appearance anyway.
Fruit Cake. In the United Kingdom, the traditional wedding cake is a rich fruitcake. It was the cake of choice for the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate. It is not a dense cake, but the traditional English version is, nonetheless, packed with dried fruits and chopped nuts and brushed with brandy. It is usually topped with Royal Icing which seals in the freshness of the cake. Royal Icing. Due to the smooth and beautiful look of Royal Icing, it is often used for decorative wedding cakes and to create delicate decorations on the cake, such as a monogram. As it does not have as pleasant a taste as marzipan or traditional soft icings, it is not recommended for icing cakes, unless cake stands are used. This is because after Royal Icing dries and hardens, it tends to crack easily. Fondant. This is rolled into thin sheets and placed on cakes for a very smooth finish. Fondant makes an excellent base for decorations, and is chosen more for looks than flavor so you may want a more delicious layer of frosting underneath it. Marzipan. An almond paste, Marzipan is also rolled into thin sheets and glazed for icing cakes, primarily wedding cakes. This use is particularly common in England, on large fruitcakes. Persipan is a similar, yet less expensive product, in which the almonds are replaced by apricot or peach kernels. There are German, French and Spanish variations of Marzipan.
